Report explains reason Spurs have not contacted Pochettino and might not want him
The Athletic have revealed that Mauricio Pochettino is not one of Tottenham’s preferred candidates to replace Antonio Conte, with Fabio Paratici driving the search for a new head coach.
It was reported by Sky Sports on Thursday that several senior players at Tottenham as well as the staff at the club are pleading with Pochettino to return to the club.
It was explained that while Daniel Levy remains on good terms with the Argentine, the Spurs chairman and the club’s directors will not be swayed just by emotions when making the decision.
The report also suggested that Paratici could also be on his way out, with the Lilywhites hierarchy said to be doing their due diligence on a potential new sporting director.
However, The Athletic have now suggested that Levy has handed Paratici the task of securing Conte’s replacement.
The report states that it is a big show of support for Tottenham’s managing director of football, who awaits the verdict of the appeal to his 30-month ban from Italian football in January following an investigation into Juventus’ accounting practices.
The Athletic suggest that Pochettino is unlikely to be one of Paratici’s choices and assert that Spurs have not contacted their former manager as of yet regarding a potential return.

The one concerning thing about Levy trusting Paratici to appoint Conte’s replacement is the fact that the Italian did not do a great job back in 2021.
Not only was his eventual appointment of Nuno a complete failure but the fact that he also seriously considered the likes of Fonseca and Gattuso was quite bewildering.
