Gone in 40 seconds: Kentucky police arrest teenage suspect following $600,000 multiple car heist that took less than a minute

• A Kentucky car dealership had four Dodge Challenger Hellcats stolen from its showroom and two from its lot in about 40 seconds, reports say.
• The dealership manager told local outlets the thieves were gone 20 seconds before the alarm went off.
• Police arrested one teenage suspect for the $600,000 heist, officials said.

Officials have one suspect in custody after a group of thieves stole multiple Dodge Challenger Hellcats worth a total of $600,000 from the showroom of a Kentucky car dealership.

A high-speed chase on February 28 ended with 19-year-old Caveze Jones in handcuffs after law enforcement said he and at least two other alleged thieves fled Don Franklin Chrysler Dodge Jeep Dealership in Somerset, Kentucky with six cars worth $95,000 each, ABC-affiliate WHAS11 reported.

Surveillance footage depicting the theft of three of the vehicles inside the dealership's showroom is now going viral online. In the clip, three people can be seen changing the license plates and driving the cars out of frame in less than a minute.

Adam Bryant, the dealership's manager, told local outlets he believes there were at least seven people responsible for the "heartbreaking" 40-second heist worth $600,000.

"They came in through the rear garage door. They had some kind of idea of how our security system worked it looked like," Bryant said.

He added: "And they were gone. Once they tripped the alarm, it takes 60 seconds before it starts alerting. They were gone 20 seconds before the alarm started to go off. The response time of the police was like three minutes. It was really good."

According to Kentucky State Police, four of the Hellcats were seen by a trooper an hour after the heist, prompting a high-speed chase reaching 180 miles per hour. Though three of the four cars managed to get away, the officer was able to stop the one containing Jones, per WTVQ. 

So far, five of the six stolen vehicles have been recovered in various nearby counties and other states, officials said.

One car appeared to have run out of gas about 25 miles away from the dealership, another was the car driven by Jones, two of the vehicles were found in Tennessee and Alabama, and a fifth was found just south of Bowling Green, Kentucky, WKYT reported.

Jones is charged with speeding, reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police, receiving stolen property worth $10,000 or more, failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance, and resisting arrest.

At the time of this article, law enforcement is still searching for the sixth and final missing car, as well as the additional suspects. Somerset, the location of the dealership, is located about 80 miles south of Lexington.
