FIA WEC: First Paddock Notes From Sebring
Spirits are high and so are the temperatures as the teams prep for the Prologue test which gets underway at 08:45 tomorrow morning.
The paddock features new branding giving fans the opportunity to pick out the garages, once again comprised of semi-rigid ‘tent’ buildings, by class of car with the Hypercars picked out in bright red.
Axcil Jeffries With NorthWest AMR For Sebring
Axcil Jeffries was having a seat fitting this morning as the Silver-rated driver for the opening round of the FIA WEC at Sebring.
The Zimbabwean driver is not yet in possession of a full-season deal however.
New Sponsor For GR Racing
There’s a little bit of a Le Mans link to a new sponsor on the #86 GR Racing Porsche 911 RSR with Kalmar Automotive displayed on the nose of the car.
Kalmar Automotive is the brainchild of Jan Kalmar, the ex Team Principal of JetAlliance who campaigned a pair of Lotus Evora GTEs in the ILMC and at Le Mans in 2011.
Kalmar Automotive, based in Denmark, is a top quality Porsche ‘resto-mod operation, building bespoke road, track and off-road versions of Porsche road cars.
Jota’s Golden Pair
Both of the Hertz Team JOTA Oreca 07s are in the ‘Hertz Racing Gold’-based livery for the opening round with the team’s Porsche 963 expected to debut at Spa.
The team also has a fully liveried Porsche 963 show car at the Hertz HQ in Estero, Florida, a couple of hours away on the Gulf Coast where Team co-owner Sam Hignett visited with drivers Will Stevens and Yifei Ye earlier this week.
New Colours For Vector Sport Preview Isotta Fraschini
Vector Sport’s Oreca 07 is sporting the team’s new livery for 2023, previewing the colours they hope to campaign later this season if and when the Isotta Fraschini Tipo 6 Hypercar is given clearance to race.
ELMS Double Champ Rojas Ready For WEC Debut
Memo Rojas was in good form on arrival in the paddock this morning at the start of what will be the Mexican racer’s first WEC campaign. “I was getting bored of winning the ELMS and fancied a change,” he told DSC with a twinkle in his eye!
He forms part of the Alpine LMP2 effort this season.
