Match Preview: Farnborough vs Havant & Waterlooville
Farnborough return to the Easy As HGV Stadium to take on Play-Off contenders, Havant & Waterlooville, who are without a win in six.
Boro will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-3 defeat away at Dartford on Saturday.
This match was previously supposed to take place back in January; however it was one of the five consecutive games that were postponed due to the poor weather.
At that point in the season, The Hawks were second in the table – five points behind Dartford – who were top of the table at the time. However, with just four wins since the start of 2023, Jamie Collins’ (who replaced Paul Doswell as First Team Manager on Saturday) side have slipped down to fifth and are deep in the battle for the Play-Off places.
The previous fixture between the two sides this season resulted in a 1-0 defeat for Spencer Day’s side, thanks to a Jake McCarthy’s deflected strike in the 80th minute.
After the Dartford defeat, Spencer spoke about the upcoming visit from Havant & Waterlooville: “It doesn’t get any easier, does it? Look, they’re in the Play-Offs and they’ve been there all season. They’re a very high-quality side.”
“We’ve bounced back well throughout the season, to a defeat. It is really a case of recovery, looking at the team, looking at who’s fit, who’s sharp, mentally as well as physically.”
There is also more hope Ollie Robinson could return from illness, as he travelled to Dartford but was unable to play despite doing everything he could.
The Hawks have not won in 6 games, with their last victory being a tight 3-2 win against Taunton Town thanks to a goal from Sam Matthews in the 90th minute.
In their last match, they lost 1-2 at Dulwich Hamlet, a game they had been leading before conceding two late goals.
A big bounce back is needed. Come on Farnborough!
