Yellow weather warning for ice issued across most of the UK
A yellow warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office, covering most of England as wintry weather makes a return.
The alert adds to a patchwork of warnings for snow, ice and rain that will apply to the majority of the UK tomorrow morning.
According to the forecasting service, the only parts of the country that will escape the worst of the bad weather will be western Wales, the southwest of England and the east coast of Scotland.
The latest yellow weather warning will come into effect at midnight and last until 8.30am – but some of the others covering the UK will stick around until well into Thursday.
The Met Office said people affected will probably experience ‘some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.’
Elsewhere, drivers are being warned of unsafe conditions on the roads, with ‘with longer journey times by car and public transport’.
This morning, Met Office Chief Forecaster Dan Suri said: ‘An area of low pressure moving eastward has brought a mild, and blustery start to the week for much of England and Wales, with showers and some coastal gales.
‘However, an Arctic maritime air mass will reassert itself from the north later today bringing with it another dose of snow and frosty nights for some.
‘As we head through the second half of the week conditions turn milder, wetter and windier from the west.
‘This change to milder conditions will be preceded by some snow over parts of northern England and Scotland later on Wednesday, mainly over higher ground.’
