18 Afghan diplomats attended the sessions on the first day of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, said on Tuesday by the Indian Institute of management-Kozhikode (IIM-K).

In a news release, the institute said it “has no part whatsoever in the selection of these individuals nor the knowledge of their political affiliations”.

The E-ITEC program’ immersing with Indian thoughts’ was conducted from March 14 to 17; the first day began with 18 Afghan diplomats, including Taliban officials. 

The session was conducted on public funding in the rural economy, the legal and environmental landscape for business, economic freedom and entrepreneurship, the richness of cultural heritage, India’s economic environment and global pandemic, growth of the IT industry in India, understanding consumers and markets in India, and regulatory ecosystem and ease of doing business in India, the statement read. 

The online crash course is the first of its kind by India since the Taliban took over Kabul in August 2021, while Afghan students in India who have been denied visas by New Delhi for two years strongly objected to it.

These students include those who received scholarships from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in 2021 but could not return to finish their degrees after returning home to Afghanistan during the Covid lockdown.
