Seagulls’ chance to make cup progress
COLWYN BAY take a break from their pursuit of the JD Cymru North title on Saturday when they have a home tie against Guilsfield in the northern semi-final of the WBS League Cup.
The club last reached the last four of a cup competition when they lost to Marine in the semi-finals of the Evostik League Cup in the 2015/16 campaign and will be looking to complete a league and cup treble over the Guils after scoring nine goals in their two league victories over them this season.
But since being thumped 6-0 at Colwyn Bay in early January, Guilsfield’s only defeat in 10 league and cup games has been away to a flying Holywell Town.
That run, with six wins and three draws, has helped lift the Guils into the top four of the JD Cymru North table, and includes winning on penalties against Llandudno in the previous round of the WBS Cup and reaching the last four of the Central Wales FA Senior Cup – so they are currently one of the form teams in the division
The winners on Saturday will play Porthmadog or Chirk in the Northern final, with the winners of that going on play the JD Cymru South winners in the overall WBS final at the end of the season.
The southern semi-finals are: Briton Ferry v Trefelin BGC and Ynyshir Albions v Barry Town.
