An historical tour in Old Saint-Eustache

Patrimoine culturel Vieux-Saint-Eustache (PCVSE) will launch a digital platform,A trip back in time — A fun-historical journey through Vieux-Saint-Eustache, allowing residents to discover more about the historic district at the beginning of the 20th century.

Using her time machine, the chronologist found herself more than a century in the past in different places in Old Saint-Eustache. The activity consists of helping her in her spatiotemporal trip to restore order in his search for forgotten stories, by traveling through five targeted places in Old Saint-Eustache.

Available as of February 27, this trip in time is a general public activity intended in particular for families, and which takes place in the form of video capsules and mini-games, with a series of old photos, most of which come from the collection of the City of Saint-Eustache. “Children and adults can stroll through Old Saint-Eustache to discover five places and their daily lives at the turn of the 20th century. During that time we experience windows open on the life of yesteryear in Saint-Eustache. A great way to dive into the past of our city and the lively daily life of its inhabitants. And as always, this activity is offered completely free of charge,” said the mayor of Saint-Eustache, Mr. Pierre Charron.

“Vieux-Saint-Eustache is a district full of history. Visitors will have the chance to learn about the trades of baking, at the bakery of David Goyer and Cordelia Lapointe, and of blacksmithing, at the forge near the Little Church. They will be able to learn more about the leisure activities of vacationers at the Rivière-du-Chêne hotel, observe the work of the sisters of the Notre-Dame convent and browse the finds of the Paquin general store,” said Mr. Michel Goyer, president of PCVSE.

To participate in this new activity, residents will have to go to each of the places. All they have to do is scan the QR code on the game poster, located near the place in question, using a smart phone. The use of cellular data will be necessary for the operation of the platform.

The digital circuit Trip in time is the culmination of a public consultation process that began in June 2021, in which citizens and tourists responded to an online survey published on the Imaginons Saint-Eustache platform. Respondents expressed their opinions on questions relating to their technological habits and interests, the frequency of their visits to the neighborhood, the themes and content to be addressed, etc.
