GA Grand Jury Heard Trump Pressure GA Speaker To Overturn Election
Georgia House Speaker David Ralston died in November but, lordy, there’s a tape. The Georgia special grand jury heard it during their investigation of Trump. NBC News spoke with Emily Kohrs, the jury foreperson, about the phone call they heard:
During the December [2020] call, Trump attempted to pressure the then-speaker into calling a special legislative session to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory in the battleground state, Kohrs said.
The call recording, which was first reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, lasted about 10 minutes, Kohrs said. She recalled that Trump asked Ralston who would stop him from holding a special session. According to Kohrs, Ralston responded, “A federal judge, that’s who.”
An anonymous juror told the AJC:
The speaker “basically cut the president off. He said, ‘I will do everything in my power that I think is appropriate.’ … He just basically took the wind out of the sails,” the juror said. “‘Well, thank you,’ you know, is all the president could say.”
