GMB’s Susanna Reid FINALLY praises Piers Morgan as she celebrates 20 years on breakfast TV
SUSANNA Reid finally paid Piers Morgan a glowing tribute on today’s Good Morning Britain two years after he quit the show – as she celebrated two decades on breakfast TV.
The GMB anchor, 52, credited her co-stars past and present with making her time on morning telly so memorable.
There were special mentions for the late Bill Turnbull, who Susanna said “taught me everything I know about presenting”, Charlie Stayt, Ben Shephard, Ed Balls and Piers.
It comes months after viewers accused Susanna and GMB of being unable to mention Piers’s name when they discussed his bombshell interview with Cristiano Ronaldo.
But speaking today, Susanna said: “I’d like to say thanks to everyone else who’s been involved on the journey along the way. You don’t do this alone on breakfast telly.
“It’s very emotional to see Bill, because we’ve lost him, and that remains very painful. He taught me everything I know about presenting.
“But also wonderful characters that I’ve presented with, working alongside Ben and Charlie and then Piers, looking at that moment in New York when Trump won the US Presidential election back in 2016, who was the person that went against the tide and said ‘this guy is going to win the American presidency’, and I think you can probably see the look on my face in that film when we announced Trump had won. It’s written all over Piers’s face, ‘I was right about that, wasn’t I?'”
Susanna was also asked if there was anyone in particular he had “fangirled over”.
Beaming from ear to ear, she didn’t even have to think, saying: “It was sitting down in a hotel room with Meryl Streep – biggest Hollywood superstar on the planet – and I was there with Charlie Stayt, because I was working on BBC Breakfast, and we sat there and she sat down and we looked at her, she looked at us, and we were both so star struck she had to say ‘has either of you got a question?’ to kick off the interview.”
Piers and Susanna presented together on GMB for six years from 2015 until 2021.
Firebrand Piers quit the show after clashing with weatherman Alex Beresford on air over his views on Meghan Markle.
He now hosts a nightly programme on TalkTV.
