Pakistan Army Brigadier Killed in Terror Attack in South Waziristan
A high-ranking member of Pakistan’s espionage agency ISI was killed along with his driver on Tuesday night in the country’s northwest.
Brigadier Mustafa Kamal Barki of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was killed “while commanding the encounter from the front” in South Waziristan’s Angoor Adda, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said in a statement.
Barki currently serves in the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency.
“Brigadier Mustafa Kamal Barki from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), while leading the encounter from the front, embraced Shahadat (martyrdom),” the ISPR said in a statement.
“Brigadier Barki and his team put up a valiant resistance against the terrorists during the encounter, and the officer sacrificed his life for the peace of the motherland.”
While during the exchange of fire, seven other soldiers were injured.
In the past few months, the security situation in Pakistan has deteriorated amid an economic crisis.
Since November last year, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have intensified their attacks on police and army officials in the country.
The militant violence in Pakistan after the TTP called off a cease-fire with the government.
Recently, the outlawed militant groups have claimed responsibility for the deadliest attack at Peshawar Mosque and Panjab Chief Police Office, killing more than 100 in both incidents.
The government of Pakistan has pledged to eliminate the terror outlets from the country, which has increased the special operations, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
