CT fugitive wanted in connection with New Britain shooting captured in New York

A Connecticut fugitive wanted in connection with a New Britain shooting in February was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in New York on Wednesday, officials said.

The New Britain Police Department filed an arrest warrant after the fugitive, identified as Luis Minaya, allegedly discharged several rounds at the home of a former acquaintance in New Britain on Feb. 19 and fled the scene.

New Britain police enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshal Violent Fugitive Task Force in Connecticut to find Minaya, officials said. They, along with the U.S. Marshal NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and Hartford Police Department, located Minaya in the Bronx, New York, on Wednesday and placed him into custody, according to officials.

Minaya is currently awaiting arraignment in New York as a fugitive from justice, officials said. He will be housed at a correctional facility on Rikers Island pending extradition to Connecticut.

Minaya is facing charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a firearm, according to officials. In addition, Minaya has seven active warrants in Connecticut, ranging from assault on police to sexual assault.
