Son lost dad’s ashes when he took them out on a bender in Tesco bag for life

A man who lost his dad’s ashes on a nine-hour pub crawl has launched an appeal to find them.

Stan Blade misplaced his father’s remains in a Tesco bag for life after ‘one last trip to the beach’ turned into a massive bender.

The 39-year-old planned to make a TikTok video of him and his dad visiting the attractions at Southend Pier.

But he bumped into a group of old pals and before he knew it things took a turn for the worse.

At some point during the crawl, Stan lost the bag which contained a wooden casket full of the ashes of his dad Stephen Jewitt, who died aged 60 in 2011.

Stephen died as a result of complications from alcohol abuse.

Stan realised his mishap when he arrived home just after midnight on March 18 after downing six tins of Stella and five pints of lager in a couple of pubs.

His step-mum Emma Hopkins was understandably furious as she had told Stan not to take the ashes out.

He said: ‘I came home and my step mum asked, “where is your dad?”

‘She was not pleased with me at all, and I do not blame her.’

He added: ‘My dad was a really funny bloke and he would have absolutely loved the idea of me riding a roller coaster with his ashes by my side.

‘He had a good sense of humour, so I just wanted to do something to pay tribute to that as I haven’t visited my hometown in a while.

‘The idea was to take him to the beach and go on the bumper cars and get an ice cream, you know all the stereotypical things you do at the beach.

‘But I ended up bumping into friends and getting drunk along the seafront.’

Stan went back to every pub in an effort to find his dad but to no avail.

He last saw the wooden casket near Adventure Island on the seafront.

He then made a TikTok video urging the public for help, and cheekily asked his step-mum: ‘Are you ready to see the funny side yet?’

She replied: ‘Not really no, I’ve f***ing had those ashes for 12 years.

‘I told you not to take them to the seafront. All you want to do is do things on TikTok.’
