Getting your child into the right primary school can be stressful for all parents. After all, ensuring your child gets the best start to their educational career is a big step.
The date for secondary school offers took place earlier in the month (March 1), with hundreds of thousands of prospective pupils finding out which school they will be attending in the next academic year.
All applications for schools go through your local authority unless you are applying for a place at a private school (or a college or 6th form place at a school).
So, when are primary school offers sent out?
Here is what you need to know.
When is the primary school offer day 2023?
The gov.uk website says that all councils will send offers of primary school places on April 16, 2023.
It’s worth double-checking any information on your council website, and you can find your local authority using the gov.uk postcode checker.
When do you have to accept a primary school offer?
The gov.uk site states that: ‘You must accept the offer by the deadline given in the offer letter.
‘Otherwise it may be withdrawn and the place given to someone else.’
Each school will have its own deadline so you should read your acceptance letter or visit the school’s website for details.
What happens if your child isn’t offered a place where they applied?
Your local authority has to provide a school place for your child. If this turns out not to be at the school you applied for, they will usually arrange for a place at the nearest school that still has room.
If you need to make an in-year application (that is, after the school year has started), then your local council will be able to advise which schools still have spaces and how to apply.
If successful, your child will then start at that school the following term.
