Dragons’ Den star Drew Cockton died from ‘mixed drug overdose’, inquest hears
A DRAGON’s Den star died from a “mixed drugs overdose”, an inquest has ruled.
Drew Cockton, 36, was found dead at his home in the Wirral on October 22 last year, after returning from a night out.
Police concluded that there was no third-party involvement in his death, after a toxicology examination gave a blood alcohol reading two and half times the drink-driving limit.
Painkillers and prescription drugs were also found in Drew’s system.
Coroner Andre Rebello ruled that Drew died from a “mixed drug overdose”.
He said: “Drew was very much loved and continued to be loved. You cannot have grief without love.
“The inquest is very much a celebration of his life and the love that still persists.”
Drew won a £50,000 investment from Dragon’s Den tycoon Touker Suleyman for his vegan candle and fragrance business Owen Drew in 2021.
He appeared on the show after quitting his job in financial services to start a hotel business.
Drew’s mum Kate released a statement after his death, which came just 17 months after he appeared on Dragon’s Dead.
She said: “We are truly, utterly heartbroken to have to tell you that our beloved Drew Peter George Cockton (my gorgeous boy) died peacefully at home yesterday.
“We are devastated beyond belief. Life is never, ever going to be the same again. Rest Peacefully darling boy.”
A BBC spokesman said: “The Dragons’ Den team are very saddened to hear that Drew has passed away. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.”
