Rhys Hoskins carted off field with apparent knee injury
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins was carted off the field in a spring training game on Thursday afternoon with what appeared to be a significant knee injury.
Hoskins fell to the turf as he fielded a ground ball in an exhibition against the Detroit Tigers at Clearwater’s BayCare Ballpark, grabbing his left knee after suffering the apparent non-contact injury. Players surrounded the seventh-year veteran before medical personnel took him off the field.
Hoskins, 30, is the longest-tenured position player on the Phillies roster and is his final year his contract. Now, his status for his final guaranteed season in Philadelphia seems uncertain.
A streaky right-handed power hitter with a knack for getting on base, Hoskins burst on the scene in 2017 as he hit 18 home runs in only 50 games as a rookie and has been a fixture in the top or middle of the Phillies lineup since. He hit six home runs in the 2022 postseason as Philadelphia made a surprise run to the World Series. Hoskins has hit 148 career home runs with an .846 OPS in his first six seasons.
