Report: Spurs may have to compete with another club if they want Pochettino
According to a report from The Times, Real Madrid may swoop for Mauricio Pochettino to replace Carlo Ancelotti, despite interest in the Argentine manager from Tottenham Hotspur.
Pochettino was in charge of Tottenham between 2014 and 2019 and presided over a fairly successful period at the club. He led Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019 but was defeated by Liverpool.
Just six months later Pochettino would be sacked after a poor start to the 2019/20 season.
He took over at PSG for a while, but departed the French club in the summer of 2022 and has been unemployed since.
The former Spurs boss has been open about his willingness to return to the North London club on numerous occasions should Antonio Conte leave (Sky Sports News).
Now, the Italian is believed to be on the verge of losing his job by the end of the week (Telegraph).
Despite Pochettino’s reported interest in a reunion with Tottenham (Times), the 51-year-old may have other offers on the table.
The latest from The Times claims Pochettino is “high up on Real Madrid’s shortlist” to replace their current manager Ancelotti, who may leave in the summer.
As per the report, Madrid have “twice before explored” the idea of appointing Pochettino but things didn’t work out at the time.
Ancelotti’s contract expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt) but the Times suggest there is talk of the Italian leaving his post at the end of the current campaign, at which time Pochettino could be the answer.

Mauricio Pochettino clearly has a strong affinity for Tottenham Hotspur, but he would surely look at the Real Madrid job as being a very good opportunity.
He’s had two chances to go there already, and it could be third time lucky as I doubt they would consider him again in the future.
If we are serious about bringing him back, Levy and the board need to get that sorted as soon as possible.
