Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth Planned Ahead to Protect Assets in Case They Divorced (Report)

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth just announced their divorce days ahead of their 12th wedding anniversary. However, according to a new report, the couple might have been planning ahead for such a situation for years now.

If you missed it, the Legally Blonde actress and her longtime husband confirmed that they were parting ways on Friday (March 24).

While the news was sudden to fans, a new report suggests that the former couple planned ahead just in case they ever decided to part ways.

“Reese has spent the last year preparing for the next chapter,” a source told Us Weekly about their split, noting that they had mutually taken steps to protect their assets.

“They decided their marriage wasn’t going to last forever and that they should have a plan for splitting up their assets that wouldn’t destroy what they built together,” the source continued.

Reese and Jim have reportedly sold off homes that they owned together, some with hefty profits. They also sold the company Hello Sunshine, which they co-owned.

Doing so might have enabled them to approach the divorce without having to fight over who owned what and paved the way for a healthy relationship into the future.

“It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together,” the couple shared in their mutual statement about the divorce.

While they are no longer together, they are believed to remain “the best of friends” and are said to be “committed to co-parenting” their shared son Tennessee, 10.
