BBC Breakfast fans thrilled at new look line-up as they call for host to be made permanent
BBC Breakfast viewers were delighted this morning to see a new look line-up on the famous red sofa.
Reporter Sarah Campbell was elevated to the role of anchor alongside Ben Thompson for the Sunday edition of the programme.
It was a welcome, and rare, return to the hot-seat for Sarah, who grasped the opportunity with both hands.
Beaming in a selfie taken beside her co-host, Sarah tweeted: “Delighted to be back on the @BBCBreakfast sofa. Join @BBCBenThompson and me …we’re talking Covid (three years on), how the British film industry is booming and if you have any jumpers to match Gyles Brandreth’s @GylesB1 ..send us your pictures!”
One viewer commented: “Lovely surprise to see you this morning.”
Another posted: “Awwwww it’s lovely to see you back on the breakfast sofa Sarah hope you will be a regular presenter on a Sunday wishing you fabulous success x.”
A third said: “I watch too much news…nice to see an unfamiliar face on the sofa.”
It was all very different for Sarah, who was seen on screens last week in the great outdoors with a Scout group.
She was covering The Big Help Out, an initiative to mark King Charles’ Coronation by encouraging people to lend a hand in their local communities.
She tucked into s’mores rustled up over an open fire, but revealed they caused her some bother when it came to linking up with her colleagues in the studio.
She told a fan: “So good. Although wouldn’t recommend eating on camera while handing back to @BBCBreakfast studio… messy!”
While Sarah’s appearance attracted numerous compliments, the programme’s news coverage came under fire with some viewers accusing the show of ignoring the ongoing riots in Paris.
France has been blighted by violent protests against President Emmanuel Macron’s bitterly contested pension reform raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.
It’s led to King Charles’ planned visit to the country being postponed for safety reasons.
