The BJP-led Karnataka government’s decision to remove Muslims from the other backward classes (OBC) list and move them to the economically weaker sections (EWS) quota has been defended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The 4% quota for Muslims was not legally valid, he said. Shah accused Congress of establishing the quota to attract votes and criticised its handling of the state’s finances.
