Report: Arsenal are keeping an eye on former Spurs defender as potential signing
Journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that Arsenal are keeping an eye on Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters as a solution to their right-back needs, despite the player’s links to Tottenham Hotspur.
Walker-Peters came through the Tottenham academy and developed through the youth teams to become a member of the first-team squad.
Despite promise, the defender made just 24 appearances for the Spurs senior squad (Transfermarkt).
After a six-month loan spell with Southampton between January and July of 2020, Walker-Peters made the move permanent.
The 25-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Saints this season (Transfermarkt) as they fight against relegation.
It was previously suggested that Tottenham were considering bringing Walker-Peters back to North London (90min).
A report from The Athletic revealed the club actually have a £30 million buy-back clause on the player.
However, it now appears Walker-Peters’ potential return to North London could see him joining rivals Arsenal instead, after the latest from Jones suggests the Gunners are keen to bolster their defensive options down the right-hand side.
It is thought Walker-Peters is “in sight” for Arsenal, as they circle talent at the “clubs in danger of being relegated” this season.
Walker-Peters is not the only name on the list, however, with plenty of options overseas for Arsenal.
The report claims Mikel Arteta is also looking at Ivan Fresneda, and Bundesliga duo Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen and Ridle Baku of Wolfsburg are also expected to be “on the radar.”
It remains to be seen whether Walker-Peters would be interested in joining the fierce rivals of his former club.

Despite Southampton’s relegation worries, I can’t see them letting Walker-Peters go for cheap given he is contracted through to 2025.
Similarly, I don’t think the player would be keen on joining Arsenal given his ties to Tottenham, but the opportunity to play in the Champions League could be tempting.
