I rent the whole upstairs of my home – they pay my mortgage and it’ll make me rich, I don’t care what the haters say

A SAVVY homeowner has revealed how she rented her upstairs living area to pay off her mortgage, which has divided opinion online.

TikToker @vay.namae filmed the short clip exposing her housing hack, which has gone viral on social media.

She later revealed she got her renters to pay for the majority of her mortgage[/caption]

In the video, the US woman started by re-enacting a common scenario where her friends asked her how much she paid to live in the home.

In which, she later replied: “I pay $100 a month to live here.”

Vayna said her repayments on the house always left people gobsmacked.

But she later revealed she intentionally bought the large property so she could rent out the separate living areas to make her money back.

Vayna said: “Yeah I actually bought this house for that purpose.

“The upstairs is actually a separate unit because this is a duplex.

“So I rent the upstairs out for $2,300 and my mortgage payment on this house is $2,400.

“So I only pay $100 a month to live here because the renters are covering my mortgage.”

People questioned how much the woman had to save to enter the property game but she claimed it was only “a year of saving”.

Vayna said: “Well 3.5 per cent down on $500,000 is only $17,500 and that took me about a year to save up.

“But it has been super worth it because my monthly expenses are super low now, plus I only have to live here for a year before I can go and buy another house by putting 3.5 per cent down.

“Then I will rent this one out fully and then keep going and going every year.”

The video went gangbusters and has more than one million love heart reactions.

The savvy investor did cop a lot of abuse for her success with most haters claiming she was exploiting renters.

However, other keen entrepreneurs defended her logic.

“House hacking is how I plan on getting into real estate investing,” a TikTok user said.

“I am very proud of you and thank you for sharing your tips, be sure to pay down the mortgage,” one added.

“This is called being financially intelligent,” a second remarked.

“Don’t hate the player, hate the game,” a third commented.

According to Vayna’s TikTok, at 22-years-old she has already bought a staggering 15 houses.

One thrifty couple have also revealed how they can afford to live in a house worth $1 million without breaking the bank.

And a real estate agent has offered her top tips to ensure your property does not lose value over time.
