Huge Noughties girl group releasing new music ten years after split
GIRLS Aloud are back with new music to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first album.
Kimberley Walsh, 41, broke the news that the group would be releasing new tracks to mark the milestone.
Joined by Cheryl, Nadina Coyle, Nicola Roberts and the late Sarah Harding, the girlband became the biggest selling of the 21st century.
They split in 2009 but got back together in 2013 for their 10th anniversary tour.
Last year, they released a demo version of their debut single on vinyl to celebrate Sound of The Underground turning 20.
They gave 100 per cent of the profits to The Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal, which is part of The Christie Charitable Fund.
The band were heartbroken after Sarah died aged 39 following her battle with breast cancer.
Kimberley told MailOnline: “We’ve got some fun alternative versions of songs lying around and little re-releases just to kind of mark that because, you know, it’s a big deal.
“20 years is a long time and the love that we still feel for Sound Of The Underground and some of the songs from the first album are still huge.
“So it still feels like something to celebrate, but in a kind of sort of discreet way, I guess.”
Kimberley said that the girls wouldn’t be heading back to the studio to record any new music “for obvious reasons”.
The BBC’s Morning Live presenter recently supported Cheryl as she made her West End stage debut as Jenny in 2:22: A Ghost Story.
Kimberley was joined by Nicola, who shared a picture of the stage as she declared: “Ready for our girl.”
The trio posed for a set of snaps following Cheryl’s stage performance before heading home together in a taxi.
Cheryl’s security team were left on “high alert” after menacing messages were left for her outside the show.
She has been plagued by stalkers for years and is said to have received some “disgusting” notes in gifts.
It’s meant that Cheryl is now being escorted out of the venue each night to a waiting car, after she received flowers with a disturbing message.
A source said: “There’s at least one nutter who has been sending some pretty disgusting and disturbing messages.
“She hasn’t been shown them but they’re included with the flowers people leave after performances.
“Cheryl has enough to think about on stage to a packed theatre each night without having to think about that too, but steps have been taken to ramp up security and put her mind at rest.
“Her minders are all over the venue communicating via radios and closely monitoring her movements and escorting her everywhere she goes.”
