Tory MP arrested for sex offences bailed for fourth time
A Tory MP accused of rape and sexual assault offences spanning seven years has been bailed for the fourth time.
The Metropolitan Police have not named the man, who is aged in his 50s, but said he faces further investigation.
He was first detained on suspicion of indecent assault, abuse of a position of trust and misconduct in public office in May last year.
The MP was told by the whip at the time to stay away from Parliament but has not suspended the whip, meaning the suspect remains a member of the parliamentary party.
According to the Evening Standard he has now been bailed again until mid-May.
Scotland Yard said officers received a report in January 2020 relating to alleged sexual offences committed in London between 2002 and 2009.
The investigation is being led by officers from the Met’s central specialist crime team.
A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘In January 2020, the Met received a report relating to alleged sexual offences having been committed between 2002 and 2009.
‘The offences are alleged to have occurred in London.
‘An investigation is ongoing, led by officers from Central Specialist Crime.
‘A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in public office.
‘He was taken into custody and has since been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in mid-May 2023.
‘Enquiries remain ongoing.’
