IT’S NO secret how useful dishwashers are when it comes to getting things sparkling clean in a hurry.
But did you know there are five things you should avoid putting in your trusty dishwasher at all costs?
According to the pros from @promlemsolvedshow on TikTok, you’re just wasting money if you try to get any of these common kitchen items clean in your dishwasher.
Insulated cups
Insulated cups are meant to keep your tea, coffee or even soup warm for hours.
The problem is if you wash them in the dishwasher they lose efficiency since the insulated space becomes compromised – meaning they’ll no longer do their job properly.
Wooden utensils
The problem here is that the heat from your dishwasher can cause wooden spoons, chopping boards and other wooden utensils to crack and, splinter or warp.
Not only that, but the high temperatures can fade the colour leaving them looking a dull.
Sharp knifes
Although it might not make much of a difference as a one off washing method, if you continuously wash sharp knifes in the dishwasher they’ll become dull overtime.
To keep them sharper for longer it’s best to hand wash them with a sponge and soapy water instead.
Non-stick pans
Although some non-stick pans claim to be dishwasher safe, it might be better to err on the side of caution and hand wash them.
The dishwasher can destroy the non-stick coating, making them less effective over time.
Cast iron skillets
Any foodie will tell you cleaning a cast iron skillet is a delicate process, and some swear by not getting them wet at all.
If you put a cast iron skillet in the dishwasher you’ll lose any seasoning you’ve created, which is the last thing you want to do.
Not only that, but it can rust if cleaned in a dishwasher at all, since the hot temperatures speed to process up.
