Flash Floods Kill At Least 9, Injure 74 in Afghanistan

According to the officials, flooding in 23 provinces of Afghanistan has killed at least 9 people, and 74 people have been injured.

The acting state Minister for Natural Disasters management said that flooding killed at least nine people and injured 74 others in 23 provinces.

According to the ministry, the recent flooding has hugely damaged people financially. As a result, more than 1,800 houses have been destroyed, and more than 20,000 acres of agricultural land have been damaged. 

  “In 23 provinces, nine people have died, 74 people were injured, and 1,778 houses were destroyed,” said Mohammad Abas Akhund, quoted by ToloNews.

Earlier, nine provinces of Afghanistan, including Balkh, Zabul, Faryab, Uruzgan, Nimroz, Nangarhar, Kunar, Nuristan, and Laghman, were severely hit with heavy rain, snow and flooding. As a result of heavy rain, more than 756 homes were destroyed partially or entirely.

Officials said that the affected families were assisted with relief such as food, tents and blankets.

Meanwhile, according to Disaster management officials, a powerful tremor of 6.5 magnitudes rocked Afghanistan last week, killing ten people, injuring more than 60 people, and damaging more than 800 houses.

Afghanistan is a proven disaster country most vulnerable to various natural disasters, including flooding, earthquake, avalanches, and landslide.
