Man faces additional weapons charges after West Hartford home, vehicle hit by bullets

A Hartford man is facing additional weapons charges following an incident in West Hartford in which a home and vehicle were struck by gunfire, police said.

Janile Anthony Cowan, 31, of Hartford, was originally arrested on a warrant on March 13 and charged with second-degree threatening after West Hartford Police Department officers responded to a property damage complaint on March 12 and found damage to a home and an unoccupied vehicle that were consistent with gunfire, according to police.

Investigators believe the incident was isolated and targeted, police said.

Although it appeared people were home when the bullets were fired, no injuries were reported, according to police.

As a result of the continued investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Cowan, who was taken into custody without incident on Wednesday. He was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, criminal possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment.

He was being held in lieu of a court-set $350,000 bond pending his arraignment in Hartford.
