Sports Briefs: Redwood golfers upset Branson

Redwood High senior Arjun Aujla fired a 4-under 32 despite wet conditions at Peacock Gap as the Giants boys golf team handed the Branson School its first league loss, 178-198, Wednesday. The Giants’ Jack Mount carded a 2-under 34, while Sam Sunskind came around at 36. Brody Root and Jonathan Evers each finished at 38.

Branson (9-1) was led by senior Charlie Farrell’s 2-over 38.

College golf

Dominican University moved up one spot on the final day of competition to finish 13th at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational at the Turlock Golf & Country Club in a packed field that featured 10 ranked teams.

Western Washington won the team title at 7-over par for the tournament. The Penguins finished at 59-over par.

Christian Schrodt set the tone for Dominican early in the first round as he shot six birdies in the first round, going 2-under par on the back nine to lead the team at even par. He then scored a 75 and a 76 in his final two rounds to tie for 20th at 7-over par. Elliott Nielsen tied for 51st on the individual board at 13-over par.

Boys volleyball

Archie Williams battled to a straight-set victory over American Canyon, 25-16, 25-16, 31-29, Tuesday.  Will Gustafson led the Peregrine Falcons (6-4, 4-1) with 10 kills on 21 attempts. Jack Levieux added 20 assists and three aces.

• Marin Catholic defeated Terra Linda, 25-21, 25-16, 27-25, on Tuesday as Lorenzo Barbagelata-Miller tallied 18 kills and two blocks. Charlie Stocker scored 10 kills and 10 digs, while Ryan Geissberger added 29 assists for the Wildcats (6-7, 3-3).

Girls lacrosse

Marin Catholic defeated San Marin 15-6 on Tuesday as the Wildcats (9-1, 3-0) prepare for Thursday’s contest with Tamalpais (9-1, 4-0).

Weather

The powerful storm that swept through the Bay Area on Tuesday and Wednesday forced more changes to the local sports schedules. Several high school softball games that had been scheduled for Wednesday are now scheduled to be played Thursday, if field conditions permit.
