UK under yellow weather warning with strong winds heading our way this weekend
Britain is braced for severe travel disruption over the next few days with winds reaching 70mph.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the south coast of England, stretching from Hastings to Cornwall.
Heavy winds are also expected to hit the south coast of Wales, from Barry to St Davids.
Cornwall and Devon may see the worst of the weather, but people are advised to keep an eye on the forecast.
The yellow alert is in place from 9pm tonight until midday tomorrow.
‘We are expecting a spell of very unsettled winds on Thursday and Friday as an area of low pressure moves in from northern France,’ a Met Office spokesperson said.
‘There are chances of winds of up to 70mph on exposed coasts and on high ground.
‘There may be isolated power cuts and there may be a few trees coming down as well.’
Travel disruption, particularly for high-sided vehicles, is expected on exposed roads.
Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are also likely.
Coastal areas could see winds of 50 to 60mph but they may be as fast as 70mph in some areas.
