Hemera lamp by Voltra
Dezeen Showroom: lighting brand Voltra has released a table lamp informed by science and myths from ancient Greece.
The Hemera lamps are available in long, medium and short sizes, and are designed to provide users with a "warm light". The lamps are named after Hemera, a Greek goddess who personified the day.
"The elegant aesthetic of Voltra's Hemera collection was inspired by scientific and mythological beliefs of ancient Greece," Voltra said. During this period of history night and day were thought to be two distinct substances, entirely independent from the sun."
"Hemera, goddess of daytime, would use her radiance each morning to disperse the darkness cast over earth during night," the brand added.
Each Hemera light is mounted on a metal stem and base, and topped with two bell-like transparent domes made from borosilicate glass. The dark inner glass is designed to represent night, while the outer symbolises day.
According to Voltra, the glass demonstrates both the precision of machinery and the beauty of craftsmanship.
"The use of borosilicate glass in the manufacture of Hemera's shades is a beautiful combination of automated precision with the skill of human craftsmanship," the brand said.
Each Hemera lamp comes in natural brass, matte black or satin nickel colours.
