Tosan Evbuomwan declares for 2023 NBA Draft

Following a fairytale March Madness run with Princeton, Tosan Evbuomwan has declared for the 2023 NBA Draft, as reported by ESPN.

The former Newcastle Eagle, who was named unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year in 2022, had one of year of college eligibility remaining but has chosen to opt to turn pro instead.

“I’ve accomplished everything that I could’ve hoped to at Princeton and I’m ready for the next step in my basketball career,” he told ESPN. “I’m excited to show NBA teams who I am and what I’m capable of as the pre-draft process unfolds”

Had he stayed in college, he would have been one of the hottest recruits in college basketball, with expectations of joining a Power 5 school. The Ivy League does not allow post-graduate players and so would have had to transfer, having earned his economics degree.

Evbuomwan’s versatile dominance captivated the country while taking the 15th-seeded Tigers to the Sweet 16, as he averaged averaging 18 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists over five elimination games in the post-season with the Tigers.

The 6’8″ point forward is hoping to become just the second Ivy League player drafted since 1984 – joining the London Lions’ Miye Oni, and would become the first player with a British passport drafted since Ryan Richards in 2010.

Jeremy Sochan, who was developed in the UK but plays for Poland internationally, was selected in the 2022 NBA Draft with the number nine pick.
