Holidaymakers shocked after massive whale washes up on popular Cleethorpes beach
A HUGE whale has washed up on a UK beach shocking onlookers.
The sperm whale was spotted on Cleethorpes beach, Lincolnshire, where it could be seen from the end of the pier.
Witnesses reported seeing the 10-metre-long mammal washed up on the sand at around 12.30pm today.
Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue and a team of divers arrived on the scene to try and help the whale and assess if it was in any danger.
Grimsby Live reports that those at the scene have stated that “with the tide coming in and the size of the whale, there is nothing much they can do.”
Members of the Coastguard are set to remain on the scene to support the rescue attempt.
The whale is quite a distance from the promenade but is attracting lots of attention from onlookers.
Members of the public are being asked not to approach the animal.

Sperm whales can grow up to 16m in length and weigh between 35,000kg and 57,000kg.
They are usually found in deep water in all of the major seas and oceans of the world.
But in the past few years there have been frequent reports of whales washing up on British beaches.
In 2020, 10 sperm whales were seen stranded near a beach in Yorkshire, and sadly all of them died.
In the same year, a huge 40ft fin whale washed up dead in Clacton-on-sea, and another sadly died after crashing into a rock on a Cornish beach.
