I ordered a cake from Costco but they took my instructions WAY too literally… I don’t know whether to laugh or cry
A COSTCO customer’s instructions were taken way too literally when they placed an order for a cake in their local shop recently.
The results left weren’t technically wrong, but they definitely were far from what the customer was expecting.
When you order a cake from Costco you have to fill out a form, rather than speak to one of the bakers, which is were things might’ve gone wrong.
The requested a half sheet cake with vanilla mouse, which feeds 48 people.
On the section were customers can select a design like balloons, flowers or a teddy bear, the customer put a big cross, indicating they didn’t want anything on there.
Then they did the same in the next section, requesting no writing on the huge cake.
Instead, they drew exactly what they wanted on the back of the order form with another reminder they wanted “no writing/design” on the cake.
“Only red frosting on perimeter for top/bottom,” they wrote, alongside of a small illustration of a cake with red lines where they wanted the icing.
But it seems the picture and explanation didn’t translate well enough and the cake decorator just copied their picture on the top of the cake.
So instead of a really simple design with no picture, they got their own artwork of the cake on top the cake.
Despite the mix up, they didn’t take it out on the baker and shared a picture of the finished cake and the form they filled out on Reddit.
“Costco will give you exactly what you know you didn’t need,” they captioned the post.
Fellow Redditors found the cake fail to be amusing, and some even thought the baker’s misunderstanding was better than the original design.
“That’s amazing. I would not be upset,” one commented.
A second agreed: “This is a thing of beauty.”
“That’s what happens when you expect someone at the bakery to understand perimeter,” another joked.
“I’d eat this,” someone else said.
