Serial burglar nailed for two house raids because he was wearing GPS prison tag
A BURGLAR was nailed for two house raids — because he had a GPS prison tag on his ankle at the time, police said.
Officers were able to place hapless Ambrose Treeby at the properties from data the gadget had recorded.
The serial crook is now back behind bars after facing justice in court.
Treeby, 39, was on licence when he targeted a 90-year-old’s home in Borough Green, Kent, in November last year. He stole a cheque and used it to withdraw £20,000 from her account.
Two months later, he pinched £150 from a handbag belonging to a woman in her 70s.
The crook called at her door in Maidstone and asked if she could change a fiver, then followed her inside when she went to check her purse, police said.
Officers arrested Treeby two days later and proved he was at the two homes from information on the GPS. It also showed him near his first victim’s bank when the cheque was presented.
Treeby, of Paddock Wood, Kent, admitted the burglaries and cashing a fraudulently obtained cheque. He was jailed for three years and four months at Maidstone crown court.
Det Con Josh Littley said: “Treeby is a callous and prolific criminal, as shown by the way he committed offences while wearing a GPS tag.
“This allowed us to gather irrefutable evidence that led to his conviction.”
