Police help a family of ducks cross road in Florida
This is the adorable moment police in Florida stopped traffic to help a family of ducks cross the road.
Footage shared by Sarasota Police shows an adult duck followed by the six babies helplessly wondering in a field next to a building.
Sergeant Schafer paused his daily duties to escort them to a nearby pond without the fear of them getting hit by a car.
His body camera captured him attempting to get the ducks in a row – a task that proved a little more difficult than he expected.
‘You guys are lost? Go that way,’ he can be heard telling them, pointing his finger at the distance.
‘Go towards the pond. No, no, no, no – go that way. It is like herding cattle. There you go.’
Sgt Schafer can then be heard giving directions to his colleague in a parked police vehicle.
‘Make sure we do not get hit,’ he says. ‘They are right behind you. Actually, they are going underneath you now. Don’t move.’
The not-so-cooperative ducks can be seen taking a few wrong turns before finally reaching the final destination.
As he waves them goodbye, Sgt Schafer adds: ‘Be free.’ The hilarious footage was shared on YouTube by the force.
‘There is no such thing as a typical day as a Sarasota Police officer,’ the caption read.
‘When Sergeant Schafer woke up at the quack of dawn on Tuesday, we do not think he planned to give a flock of ducks a police escort to the pond at Payne Park.
‘It’s okay, he was able to wing it. Next time, he will have to put it on their bill.’
The family made their way to a pond in Payne Park, police added.
