Sports briefs: Dossa leads Tam to win over Branson

Kaiden Dossa had a big game at the plate and on the mound as Tam topped Branson 7-2 on Tuesday.

Dossa, who hit leadoff, set the table for Tam all game long with three hits, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. As a pitcher, Dossa went 5.1 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out four.

After being shut out in the first, the Red-tailed Hawks (10-9, 9-4 MCAL) scored runs in the next five consecutive innings. The win keeps Tam in third place ahead of four-loss Novato and five-loss San Marin.

Cooper Tenney led Branson (10-8, 4-7) with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.

  • Novato rode a five-run second inning to build a big lead against San Rafael then hold on for a 7-5 victory on Tuesday. J.P. Harmon, who announced his commitment to play for the University of Mississippi via Twitter earlier in the day, had a pair of hits and drove in two runs to pace the Hornets (13-5, 7-4). Julian Oliver had two hits and drove in a run. C.J. Harter drove in two runs for the Bulldogs (1-14, 0-11).
  • Archie Williams scored in each of the first four innings en route to a 5-1 win against Terra Linda Tuesday. Luca Genovese (two hits, run) and Jack Evans (two hits, two runs) led the way for the Peregrine Falcons (7-11, 5-6). Hayden Biesiadecki had the RBI for TL (3-14, 2-9).
  • Aiden Cohen pitched a solid game for San Domenico, but the Panthers fell 5-2 Monday to University. Cohen allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven batters across six innings. The Panthers’ two runs came in the second inning on a double by Oliver Swain.

College baseball

College of Marin got touched up for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning of an 8-6 loss to Yuba on Tuesday. COM (19-16, 12-4 Bay Valley) led 2-0 on RBIs by Joey Taddie and Steven Elsner before Yuba took control of the game in the third.

Jacob Campbell paced the Mariners with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Prep softball

Brooke Younkin allowed four hits and struck out four hitters as Novato picked up a rare win against San Marin with a 3-1 victory on Monday night. Coach Paul Perryman said it was the first time the Hornets have beaten the Mustangs in more than 20 years.

Seanna Madsen drove in Claire Hannan for the game-winning run for the Hornets (8-9, 2-7). The result kept San Marin (6-7, 5-4) in a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot with Tam with five games left to play for both teams.

Boys golf

The Branson School’s Aria Saluja earned medalist honors with a 2-under 34 at Peacock Gap to lead the Bulls past San Marin, 195-22, on Tuesday.

  • Jack Mount shot a 38 at Meadow Club on Monday to pace Redwood in a tri-match against San Marin and Archie Williams. The Giants got balanced scoring en route to a 203. Noah Duncan’s 42 paced the Mustangs, who defeated the Peregrine Falcons 231-251. Colton Mansbridge shot a 45 for Archie Williams.
  • Tam High golfer Ben Friedman shot a 4-under 140 over two rounds as the Junior Tour of Northern California stopped in Solano County last weekend. Friedman finished second to Benicia’s Mario Stump in a tiebreaker during the tournament, held at Rancho Solano and Paradise Valley golf courses. Mill Valley’s Hayden Thill placed 23rd with an 8-over 152, followed by Terra Linda’s Sean Madden (28th, 9-over 153) and Novato resident Mason Sylvester (31st, 10-over 154).

Mountain biking

Redwood High riders Charlotte Philkill and Matthew Marotto won varsity races at Six Sigma Winery in Clearlake over the weekend. Marotto finished the four-lap varsity boys race (1 hour, 8 minutes, 06.57 seconds), just a split-second ahead of the next two finishers. Archie Williams High School’s Noah Bott placed fifth in the varsity boys race (1:10:57.63), with San Marin’s Tyler Hemmings 18th (1:30:06.60). Tam’s Jack Robinson won the sophomore boys race.

  • Philkill won the varsity girls race in 1:21:26.31, with the Branson School’s Hayley Yoslov in third (1:25:40.80) and the Falcons’ Alexandra Stein eighth (1:31:03.31).
