Ministers will change law to IGNORE Euro judges blocking deportation flights

THE law will be changed to allow ministers to ignore last minute injunctions from Euro-judges that ground deportation flights

Downing Street have cut a deal with dozens of Tory rebels to amend their flagship Illegal Migration Bill ahead of vote by MPs next week.

One amendment to the new law will empower the Home Secretary to “disregard” interim “Rule 39” orders from the European Court of Human Rights that have grounded deportations and flights to Rwanda.

The rulings can come from anonymous Strasbourg judges late at night – with critics branding them “pyjama injunctions.”

Another tweak to the proposed legislation will enshrine in law that the only way to stop a deportation of failed asylum seekers or criminals is by persuading a British judge that it would lead to “serious and irreversible harm”.

Currently there are dozens of legal loopholes used to ground flights using the Human Rights Act or Modern Slavery concerns.

The proposed changes to the law will be published today – with MPs due to vote on them as soon as next Tuesday.

But the move is likely to be highly contentious, teeing up a major Commons showdown next week.

Borders Minister Robert Jenrick has spent days locked in talks with Tory MPs such like Danny Kruger, Jonathan Gullis and Sir John Hayes who said they had the backing of up to 40 colleagues.

Mr Kruger told The Sun: “The British public have placed their faith in this Government to control our borders. They are fed up with London lawyers and Strasbourg judges getting in the way of a sensible migration policy.

“My colleagues and I are grateful to the Home Secretary and Prime Minister for their work to secure most of the changes to this Bill that we asked for.

“On the basis of discussions that are still underway, I’m hopeful that the Government will be able to deliver the prompt removals to Rwanda and other safe countries that we need in order to stop the boats and lay the foundation of a fair and humane asylum system.”
