I’ve been searching for the perfect leggings so compared M&S’ ‘magic’ slimming ones to Primark’s & one won by a mile
A FASHION fan went on a mission to find the ‘perfect’ pair of leggings on the high-street – and found a clear winner.
After hearing about Marks & Spencer’s viral ‘magic’ leggings, Emily Collis was determined to discover if any other high street chain’s offerings could rival them.
So Emily, who works for Birmingham Live, headed out to her local high street for some shopping and to see what she could get her hands on.
And she ended up finding another pair to compare them to – Primark’s Shaping Active Leggings.
First, Emily went into M&S to see what all the fuss was about, considering the clothing item has racked up “over 900 five-star reviews.”
However, the fashionista was the first to admit that she was slightly “sceptical” about whether they would deliver.
The plain black leggings, which are £19.50, claim to “smooth and control the tummy without compromising comfort,” and have been described as ‘magic’ thanks to acting as shapewear.
It’s also said that the “clever stitching” will “lift your bottom for a sculpted silhouette.”
But what did Emily make of them?
She revealed in her article: “I’m a size 14 and 5 ft 10, so finding bottoms long enough can be difficult.
“I was pleased to see that M&S’s leggings came in petite, regular, and long, with a big range of sizes from 6 up to 24. I got a 14 long.”
She continued to give her opinion, as she revealed that she was a fan of the fabric, and – although they took a little while to pull up – she deemed them “surprisingly comfortable.”
Emily continued: “The length was perfect and I thought the panels down the side were a flattering feature, but the fabric gaped ever so slightly at the back of my knees, which made them look more like skinny-fit trousers than leggings.”
She also said that while they smoothed out her figure, she didn’t notice a change when it came to the tummy area.
Then it was time to see how Primark’s plain black leggings, which cost £10, compare.
After slipping them on, Emily reported that they sadly didn’t win the competition – and it was all to do with the fit.
She revealed: “Despite being a little too short in length on me, they fit like a glove around my legs and I was certain a size down would have been too tight.
“But they were oddly baggy around my tummy, which meant the fabric bunched up when I sat down and the leggings kept slipping down on my waist.”
On top of this, she said they were also “quite unflattering.”
Revealing the winner was M&S’ leggings, Emily concluded: “So, are M&S’s Magic Leggings really magic in terms of their shaping abilities? In my opinion, no.
“They didn’t give me a flat tum or Kim K‘s bum, but they did flatter my curves and give me a more hourglass shape.
“I thought they were decent value for money and I’ll definitely be wearing them again.”
