Celebrity MasterChef made me quit TV career forever, says Melanie Sykes in new book
MELANIE Sykes has admitted that her appearance on Celebrity MasterChef forced her to quit TV forever.
The popular presenter has confirmed that she has turned her back on mainstream TV in her brand new book, Illuminated.
Melanie, 52, has detailed a number of bad experiences in the TV industry in her new autobiography and why she has now chosen to walk away from her once high-flying career for good.
In her book, Melanie recalls a moment with MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace which made her rethink all of her future TV prospects.
During a moment on the show, she recalls being told by Gregg that her appearance on the BBC reality show would be a boost to her career as he told her it “would do a lot for you”.
However, Melanie writes that it in fact did the complete opposite.
She pens in the book that appearing on the show made her “decide to end my television career once and for all.”
Melanie adds: “I was done.”
Elsewhere in the explosive book, former model Melanie recalls another time she was ‘thrown under the bus’ by TV executives when they falsely blamed her and her co-host for being the reasons behind a shelved show.
She recalls how she and Mark Wright were chosen to be the hosts of what was tipped to be an exciting new gameshow.
However, once filming wrapped it was decided that the show must never see the light of day after it fell foul of TV gambling rules.
She expressed her shock when she later saw a statement issued to the press which blamed her and Mark’s lack of knowledge and alleged failure to understand the show’s concept as the reason behind its premature axing.
Mel writes: “The line was that Mark and I had ‘failed to understand the concept of the game’.
“I was fuming. Thrown under the bus yet again.
“This industry was a horror story.”
