Charity chains converge for image-building Melbourne pop-up
Six Australian charity retailers are teaming up under Charitable Recycling Australia to establish a new ‘Charity Shop?’ pop-up concept at Westfield Foutain Gate.
The retailers are Salvos, Vinnies, Red Cross, Uniting, Brotherhood of St Laurence and Save The Children.
The ‘Charity Shop?’ concept, which will run for five weeks beginning from May 1, is aimed at socially and environmentally conscious millennials and Gen Z with a plan to save 47,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions by reusing garments.
The store will feature 4100 pre-owned fashion pieces from the six retailers, as well as brand-new pre-consumer goods from ThreeByOne denim and Jaggad high-performance activewear.
According to the brands, this innovation in charity retail is a first for Australia. It aims to show off charity retail’s commitment to the environment while providing an enjoyable shopping experience for customers. Therefore, people can feel good about their actions while also discovering affordable, sustainable fashion.
The net earnings of the shop’s sales will benefit the charitable reuse sector’s environmental and social causes, helping to reduce the impact of climate change and transition to the circular economy.
Charitable Recycling Australia members also raise funds for the most vulnerable in communities through their charity stores, including food and shelter for those in need, crisis help, mental health and a wide range of disabilities and disease support.
