Rail strikes set to disrupt Man Utd vs Man City FA Cup final
Train drivers from the United Kingdom are expected to stage a fresh round of strikes in the long-running dispute over the payscale, as per union ASLEF.
The union have confirmed that strikes will be held on three separate dates on May 12, May 31 and June 3 – the latter coinciding with the FA Cup final.
A statement from ASLEF read: “ASLEF, the train drivers’ union, has rejected a ‘risible’ pay offer from the 16 train companies with whom we are in dispute – our drivers not having had an increase in salary at these companies since 2019.”
“The proposal – of just 4% – was clearly not designed to be accepted as inflation is still running north of 10% and our members at these companies have not had an increase for four years.”
Man Utd and Man City fans set to be affected by rail strikes
Manchester United and Manchester City fans are set to make the rail trip down south to London and the strikes will hamper them.
Many people will have to travel by coach or their personal vehicles, which could lead to further congestion on the motorway on June 3.
We could have extended traffic jams resulting in fans not making it to Wembley Stadium in time for the game.
Just yesterday, it was confirmed that the final will be played at 3.00 pm GMT for the first time in 12 years.
The Metropolitan Police classed the derby as huge risk due to the historic rivalry between the clubs.
This will be the first ever Manchester derby in the long history of the famous old competition.
It will be interesting to see whether the Football Association decide to postpone the kick-off time on matchday in case there is significant traffic disruption.
