Five low-cost ways to give your nails a simple at-home makeover
GIVING your nails a makeover is a simple, low-cost way to make a style statement.
With a little practice, you can save on the salon and change looks to suit your mood.
Here are some ideas to give your hands a spring refresh at home . . .
HEALTHY HANDS: First, get your nails up to scratch by buffing and filing. Use cuticle oil to moisturise them and soften skin around the bed so you can push it back.

PAINT LIKE A PRO: The key to painting your nails is to only get as much polish as you need on the brush.
Try to do as few strokes as possible and go to the edge of the nail with the polish, but make sure you don’t touch the skin or cuticle.
GLAZED DOUGHNUT: They are not only a delicious treat — doughnuts are now a style inspiration for the nails of celebs, including Hailey Bieber. The trend is all about super shiny iridescent nails in milky white or pale pink.

SKITTLE NAILS: Try painting each nail a different colour. Vibrant colours work best — think tropical orange, pinks and yellows. Manicurist Robbie Tomkins said: “Skittle nail art has been around for a while but is having a moment again and is easy to do at home.”
Find five colours that complement each other. Raid your own supplies and add to them with one or two new shades.

FANCY FRENCH: French manicures with the classic painted nail tips are back. Use a bit of tape to get that smooth line between the tips and nail.
Give this classic look an updated twist by swapping white tips for pastel or bright shades to suit sunnier days.
