Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen has appealed against an eviction notice from Visva-Bharati University in Kolkata that asks him to vacate 13 decimal of land at his Santiniketan residence by May 6. A central university claims that the land is under "illegal occupation", and moves to evict him if he fails to vacate it by the deadline. The economist countered that his father, Ashutosh Sen, received the land to lease for 99 years by Rathindranath Tagore, Visva-Bharati general secretary, in 1943.
