Huge US show will end with movie-length finale after four series as last episode details revealed
SUCCESSION is set to go out in style with a 90 minute long final episode as the hit show comes to an end.
Nicholas Britell, the programme’s Emmy award-winning composer, has said the last episode will be “like a movie”.
The satirical comedy-drama follows the Roy family – dysfunctional owners of a global media and hospitality empire – as they fight for control of the company amid family patriarch Logan’s uncertain health.
The series tracks their lives as they contemplate what the future will hold for them once their ageing father begins to step back from the company.
Speaking to Variety, Nicholas said: “It’s 90 minutes, it’s a huge episode — like a movie.”
This comes after the cast navigate Emmy submissions after the show was so well-received by critics and fans.
Kieran Culkin, who plays Roman Roy, will be submitted for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmys this year.
He bagged two nominations for the same category in 2020, where he lost out to his co-star The Morning Show’s Billy Crudup.
It wasn’t second time lucky for Kieran either as he also lost out on the award in 2022 to his other co-star Matthew Mcfagyen (Tom Wambsgans).
The actor will going up against Jeremy Strong, which his team confirmed and potentially Brian Cox, who both received nominations in Lead Actor categories for Season 2 and 3 of Succession.
Brian’s character Logan Roy appeared in the first three episode of Season 4 before he was killed off, so he could submit himself for Lead Actor, Supporting Actor or even Guest Actor, if he doesn’t appear in any more episodes.
“Only performers appearing in less than 50% of the eligible episodes can submit in the guest performer categories,” the Emmy rules stated on the matter.
When Kieran was asked whether he thought his character was a lead, he told Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast: “If you’re asking if he’s a lead character, then I would say absolutely.
“I think this season was set up before episode three happened as Logan versus Shiv, Roman, Kendall,’ Culkin explained.
“And then [Logan] passes, and it’s what I think the central focus of the show is — the three of them,” he added.
Sarah Snook, who plays Shiv Roy, will also be submitted for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
