Urgent holiday warning over risk of £25,000 fines for Brit tourists partying in top island destinations Ibiza & Majorca

BRITS are being warned they face hefty fines for partying on top holiday destinations Ibiza and Majorca.

Clubbers could be hit with a £25,000 penalty if they attend illegal parties on the two islands, which have been clamping down on unlicensed events.

The authorities on the Balearic islands have been trying to end what they call “irregular commercially-promoted parties”.

Cops on Ibiza and Majorca have powers to stop parties taking place or issue fines once one is over though they can’t intervene when they’re in full swing.

Fines for organising, marketing and advertising, as well as participating, in the events if they take place in protected natural areas or homes can reach up to around £25,000, local media report.

Those organised house parties could face maximum fines of £260,000.

The measures where first brought in last year and the UK Foreign Office is warning Brits they remain in place.

“There have been a number of serious accidents involving people attending irregular commercially promoted parties in villas and private homes on the islands of Ibiza and Mallorca,” it says.

“Licensed clubs and bars are required to meet safety and security standards, including emergency exits and capacity limits, and to have trained, licensed security staff.

“Irregular commercial parties may not meet these standards. Heavy fines may be imposed by local authorities to anyone attending irregular commercial parties.”

The Foreign Office is also urging party-goers to take care if they are in Spain and do go to one of these events.

“You should take care of your belongings, ensure you know where emergency exits are located and not take unnecessary risks.

The plans were first announced by a member of the Balearic Government, Mercedes Garrido.

“We have been looking for measures to stop illegal parties and to make organisers think twice when they plan a party,” she said.

President of the Council of Ibiza, Vicent Marí, said the changes could be brought in for the summer season and would target parties which charging an entrance fee and advertising without a license.

The measures come as officials in Majorca and Ibiza crack down on booze-fuelled chaos and drunken behaviour.

Holidaymakers will now be slapped with a six-drink-a-day limit instead of having alcohol on tap.

The regulations will affect tourists in Magaluf, Majorca and some areas of party island Ibiza.

And they mean tourists can only have three free tipples at lunch and three with their evening meal.

The block has been put on boozy pub crawls, the sale of alcohol in shops between 9.30pm and 8am and advertising party boats in some areas.
