I’m going to be a bride at 60 – he kept me waiting 35 years, me and my pals gave up hinting
AN ECSTATIC gran is going to be a bride at 60 – after waiting 35 years for her partner to pop the question.
Graham Martin, 56, asked Andrea Murray to marry him in February.
They became a couple in 1988 but Graham had repeatedly said over the decades that he was not keen to marry.
So Andrea, a retired chef, was delighted when he got down on one knee on the beach at Lossiemouth in Moray this year.
The loved-up pair will now tie the knot in front of four generations in September.
Andrea said: “It was a truly wonderful and so unexpected proposal. I have to keep pinching myself.
“I thought we were going to look at a caravan then he just got down on one knee. It was so romantic and special – it really blew me away.
“He even asked my dad first. It’s good to know romance is still alive.”
The happy couple got together on April 22, 1988 – so have just celebrated 35 years together.
They agreed they’d be together for life 28 years ago and Andrea was desperate to be wed, but Graham, a stock controller, felt their commitment was enough.
But he had a sudden change of heart and decided it was the right time earlier this year.
So he popped the question on February 2 on a day trip away from their home in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.
The couple have planned their wedding for September 9, at a hotel where Andrea used to work.
Her dad, Andrew, who will be 88, will escort the happy bride down the aisle while sons, daughters and grandchildren will also be involved.
Andrea said: “I nearly had a fit I was so surprised when he proposed.
“I’ve hinted at marriage for years, and so did my friends, then we just gave up.
“All Graham’s friends were so shocked – they all asked if he was ill.
“I’m so excited to make our commitment to each other in front of all our family and friends. Marriage is the icing on the cake for me.”
