Citymapper makes premium features free for everyone
Popular transport app, Citymapper, is making its premium features free for all users.
With public transport in the UK being unpredictable in recent times due to multiple train strikes, commuters have been forced to find alternatives that are still cheap.
Citymapper is an app widely used by Londoners to plan their commutes around the city with real-time travel information and ETAs.
The app has long offered features like voice navigation on your headphones for paid subscribers.
Recently, the company paywalled a few previously free options like showing routes for when you only want to take buses or use your bike, on top of introducing ads to the free tier.
Now, these features will be available to all users, making getting around much easier.
iOS users will also get ‘Lock screen navigation’ that shows their progress and live activity without unlocking their phones.
All users can now also choose the ‘Walk Less’ feature which lets them cut down on outdoor walking.
This is great for the unpredictable UK weather so you can avoid getting caught in an unexpected downpour.
Walk Less is also a great feature for women who feel unsafe walking alone after dark.
Android users also get a ‘Trip Forecast’ feature where you can compare all trips for a given route in the next hour, and pick when to leave.
This is perfect for trips to the airport and important meetings, so you know when exactly to leave home and aren’t stuck waiting for the bus or train.
The only catch is that the free version comes with ads. If you want to switch to an ad-free experience, the Citymapper CLUB subscription is available for £1.49 a month.
In March, Citymapper was acquired by global public transport company, Via Transportation.
