WGA Denies Waiver for Tony Awards, 2023 Show Won't Air as Planned
Sad news for the Broadway community – the 2023 Tony Awards will not be able to take place as planned on June 11.
Amid the Writers Guild of America strike, the Broadway League requested a waiver from the organization that would allow the show to go on as planned.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the waiver has been denied and now the league needs to come up with a new plan. There are two alternate plans to choose from right now.

The first option is to hold a non-televised presentation of the awards on June 11. This would likely take form as a dinner or a press conference.
The other option is the postpone the show until the end of the writers strike.
THR reports that the Broadway League, made up of producers and theater owners, support the first option while the American Theater Wing, which is in charge of the Tony Awards brand, is more open to the second option.
