The Congress party is heading towards a majority in the Karnataka assembly polls, with leads in 117 seats compared to BJP's lead in 75 seats. Congress General Secretary, Jairam Ramesh, said that the BJP's election campaign, which attempted to make the polls a "referendum on the PM", had been "decisively rejected". He added that the Congress had focused on local issues such as livelihood, food security, farmer distress, and corruption. The Karnataka election is viewed as a test for both parties ahead of the 2024 parliamentary polls.
