Mason talks about wanting Spurs job and the plan for the club moving forward
Ryan Mason has once again stated that he wants the permanent Tottenham Hotspur job after overseeing his second interim spell in charge of the first team.
While Spurs have hardly rocketed up the table under Mason, there have been clear signs of improvement in both the performances and the general mood around Tottenham.
A win over Crystal Palace, a draw to Man United, and so nearly an incredible comeback against Liverpool, Spurs have at least been fighting for their new boss.
However, that fight was once again absent at times this afternoon against Aston Villa as Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat away from home, denting their hopes of Europa League football next season.
After the game, Mason insisted that he still wants the permanent job, while adding that enough good people at the club want meaningful change, which is why he is confident it will happen.
On wanting the job, he said (Football London): “My view hasn’t changed. We haven’t had much time to change things. But we’ve got two games remaining and they’re important ones.”
Mason has previously stated that he feels ready for the permanent Tottenham head coach role (Charlie Eccleshare).
On the plan moving forward, he added: “I think the outside world is the outside world. When you’re consistent and you’re strong inside that transfers outside.
“Everyone is pulling together and trying to create a togetherness. The environment is so important.
“We’ve had a disappointing season in terms of where we are in the table and many other things as well.
“There hasn’t been that togetherness throughout the club.
“That will change and I believe it will change.
“There’s enough good people within the club that want it to.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Respectfully, I am a big fan of Mason and think he has a future as a coach, but now is not the right time for him. Don’t rush things. Just look at Lampard and Gerrard. Go down to the Championship and spend a good few years learning your trade before even thinking about a big job.
